My Suicide

by Cordell

the thunderheads rolled
painting the sky an iron gray
sheets of rain sweep the valley floor
hissing in my ears
as my feet entered the water
of that great and rushing river
where I would drown and
my sins would lie on the bottom
and God would forgive
